Blumhouse Productions to Receive Award of Recognition

By: Los Angeles Post Production Group | May 12, 2014

Blumhouse Productions to Receive Award of Recognition
At their May 15th Navigating Filmmaking in Los Angeles Event, hosts FilmL.A., NewFilmmakers Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Post Production Group will be presenting Blumhouse Productions with an Award of Recognition for their work in keeping production in Los Angeles.

"In a time when runaway production is the new norm, its important to shine a light on those production companies who keep projects local and jobs in Los Angeles," explains Los Angeles Post Production Group's Co-Founder Woody Woodhall. As FilmL.A. reported recently, last year California ranked fourth behind Louisiana, Canada and the United Kingdom in total live-action feature projects, total related film jobs and total related production spending.

Art Yoon, Executive Vice President of FilmLA and the moderator of the event's panel says, "Jason Blum knows Los Angeles and knows how to bring the scares! Think Insidious: Chapter 2, Lords of Salem, Paranormal Activity 2, and The Purge -- all filmed extensively in our region and brought L.A. locations to life in Blum's signature style."

When thinking some of the highest grossing horror films, Blumhouse Productions is at the top of the list. Blumhouse Productions, founded by Jason Blum in 2000, and is a multi-media production company that pioneered a new model of studio filmmakingproducing high-quality micro-budget films for wide release. Since its launch, Blumhouse has produced more than 30 feature films including some of the most profitable movies of all time.

"It's a great honor to receive this award and we happily accept on behalf of all those that
have made our movies possible. Los Angeles has always been the epicenter of filmmaking
and we intend to keep it that way," says Jason Blum.

The May 15th event at Busby's East in Miracle Mile will allow filmmakers to network with
one another and take part in an informative panel discussion with 4 talented
independent filmmakers including Miranda Bailey, Jeff Grace, Tjardus Geridanus and
Larry Laboe who have successfully completed and distributed films shot in LA.

"It's important to recognize the companies and individuals who are going the extra mile
to keep their productions here in Los Angeles, even when other states and counties are
competing to lure them away with more incentives, some even with no ceiling. We need
to keep our industry in LA working and empowered and Blumhouse has done an
excellent job in that arena," said NewFilmmakers Los Angeles Executive Director Larry
Laboe.
