Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival has announced its full film line-up for theupcoming 19th edition, April 26-May 6. From 2,085 film submissions, this year's slate will present 189 titles from a record 51 countries in 11 screening programs. The Festival will open with the Canadian premiere of AI WEIWEI: NEVER SORRY, an up-close portrait at of the renowned Chinese activist and artist, which will screen at the newly renovated Bloor Hot Docs Cinema.

In partnership with the Blue Ice, Hot Docs has recently re-opened the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, which marks the beginning of a new chapter in the much-loved, century-old film house located in Toronto's Annex neighbourhood. A long-time staple of the Festival, the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema will serve as the Festival's new home.

The Festival will feature films in six annual programs, including Special Presentations, featuring award-winning films, celebrated filmmakers, high-profile subjects and special events; the Canadian Spectrum, a competitive program of compelling Canadian stories and perspectives; International Spectrum, a curated competition of diverse works from around the world; the World Showcase; a popular global selection of the year's finest docs; Made In program, a selection of films that champion the renewed strength and artistry the Southeastern European documentary filmmakers; and Next, a celebration of the arts, culture, music and creativity.

This year the Festival will introduce two new programs, Rise Against, a look at activism, defiance and heroism in the face of cultural, political and ideological adversity; and Nightvision, a new strand featuring future cult classics and creative approaches to filmmaking.

Additionally, Hot Docs is pleased to present three retrospective programs: Documentary Plays Itself, which will explore the craft of filmmaking; Focus On John Kastner, a mid-career retrospective of the Emmy Award-winning director's work; and the Outstanding Achievement Award Retrospective, honouring the influential work of masterful Québécois filmmaker Michel Brault.

Many of Hot Docs' official selections are world, international or North American premieres and the
majority of filmmakers will be in attendance to participate in post-screening discussions, as well as
other Festival events.

Also a premiere documentary conference and market, Hot Docs will welcome over 2000 industry
delegates who will partake in a wide array of industry events and services, including conferences
sessions, receptions and parties, Rendezvous meetings, The Doc Shop and the Hot Docs Forum, May 2 and 3.

The Outstanding Achievement Award Retrospective and Focus On John Kastner are presented by the National Film Board of Canada.

The Canadian Spectrum program is sponsored by TVO.

The Hot Docs documentary Box Office, newly located at 783 Bathurst Street, is open for advance ticket and pass sales. Tickets can be purchased in person, online at www.hotdocs.ca, or by phone at 416-637-5150. Single tickets to screenings are $14.50 each. Late night screenings (after 11 p.m.) are $5 each or $10 for an All-You-Can-Eat Late Night Pass (one ticket to each of the nine screenings).
