And yes, it's a direct shot at Google. Chrome, the heart of Google's $300 billion ad empire, is suddenly vulnerable. With the DOJ declaring Chrome part of an illegal monopoly and antitrust winds blowing strong, OpenAI is seizing the moment. They're building their browser on Google's own Chromium engine but keeping everything inside a conversational interface. In other words, Google sends you to the web. OpenAI keeps you inside the conversation. If even a fraction of ChatGPT's 400 million weekly users make the switch, Google's data firehose could slow to a trickle.
