Although I have a large network of clients and fans, there are always new licensing opportunities out there that I am missing out on, since I simply don't have enough time in the day.' Matthews Studio Equipment is Celebrating 50 Years Serving the Entertainment Industry
February 26, 2021For the majority of the last two decades I have made my living as a motion picture studio grip on sets, supporting camera and lighting. My favorite part of the job certainly is when it comes to light modification. Using different tools and techniques to move light around and paint the set with lumens is a real thrill and pretty magical. When the lockdown started I packed my car with gear from Matthews and headed to my home to produce instructional grip videos. Normally I work off of enormous trailers packed with all sorts of gear, but that was in the past. I had initially grabbed Matthews portable Road Rags Kit due to the fact that it would fit in my car. It was the first time I had to depend on it.Being an avid camper had me feeling like a pro when it came to assembling the sturdy aluminum frames of the Road Rags Kit. The 18"x24" dimension was perfect for my closeups and for lighting unit control. The best part was that there was no guessing when it came to the textiles-they were the same Silks, Silver Lame, Solids and Nets that I have been using on set for years. All Matthews portable light modifying kits offer the same selection of studio quality textiles used in their world class gear. No need to relearn the quality of your diffusion, bounces or negative fill. Swapping out standard studio flags with the Road Rags and replacing heavier, bulky stands with these kit stands really streamlined my lighting package and allowed me to achieve optimal results on the go as a one person production.BTS of GLP Films 2014 Journey Around the World - with MSE Lighting Support from Matthewsgrip on Vimeo.Using the Road Rags Kit was truly eye opening. Its overall portability, right down to the rugged Cordura travel bag is certainly a plus. Most importantly, I didn't have to learn a new system. As soon as the frames were built up, I had the same reliable tools that I am used to working with at my disposal. I was really happy that the quality of the light modifiers didn't suffer due to their wonderful portability.

February 17, 2021Event and production organizers at locations that need to accommodate electric vehicles on a temporary basis require portable solutions that can be loaded in and loaded out as needed. Meet EV Safe Charge, a provider of just such a solution based in Los Angeles, CA and serving the entire U.S. and Canada. The company's EV Charge Mobile products can deliver up to 50 kW of DC power or 9.6kW of Level 2 power and can connect to existing site power sources. Both the smaller Level 2 chargers and the larger more powerful DC fast chargers are available for rental short or long-term.Founder and CEO Caradoc Ehrenhalt and the entire EV Safe Charge team are excited to work with production companies to help bring EV charging to the set. "We are thrilled to work with the amazing companies who are creating great entertainment and more, and who are committed to being green. Mobile EV charging is something we make easy so that productions of all sizes can offer this green service to cast and crew" said Caradoc. To make the use of its products more sustainable, EV Safe Charge offsets the greenhouse gas emissions from any generators used on location by planting trees with the Arbor Day Foundation.EV Safe Charge rents equipment for cast and crew charging, on location shoots, on the lot shoots, premieres and wrap parties, or any other situation you may want EV charging. And their services aren't limited to just the LA metro area, EV Safe Charge has worked with customers across the country as well as in Canada.EV Safe Charge received incredible feedback following a deployment at an on-site location for cast and crew of a major Hollywood motion picture. Providing EV charging on-site allowed EV drivers to use their own vehicles instead of renting ICE vehicles, demonstrating the studio's commitment to being green and doing their part to preserve the natural environment they were shooting in. Caradoc said: "we are proud to provide these kinds of solutions for studios and productions companies. We pride ourselves on our commitment to the environment and making it easy for our customers to share in that commitment. Caradoc added: "We were put through a rigorous vetting process. The project required a partner that could not only provide portable Level 2 and DC fast charging stations but also the logistical support and project management to handle charging on such a prestigious and arduous series of large-scale nationwide events."Since that first event EV Safe Charge has provided temporary EV charging solutions to major vehicle launches, corporate campuses and film shoots across the country and in Canada.
