Xenia Lappo Joins ESTA as New Program Manager for Membership & Events
July 7, 2025
Wishing a Happy Retirement to Laura Hoepker ESTA is excited to welcome Xenia Lappo as ESTA's new program manager for membership & events. Lappo comes to ESTA from the world of film and television production with a background in marketing and events. She first encountered ESTA through work with PERG members while supporting product launches and tradeshows like Cine Gear and NAB. That firsthand experience is key to her motivation as the newest member of the ESTA team. "I love that ESTA is more than a trade organization," Lappo said. "It's a living network of people who genuinely care about the future of this industry. I get excited about connecting members with each other, creating opportunities for collaboration, and highlighting the incredible work being done across disciplines. We're in a time of rapid change in both technology and storytelling, and ESTA is uniquely positioned to help members move forward together." Lappo joined ESTA in March, and you may have had the pleasure of meeting her at USITT, Cine Gear, or the AICP/PERG Spring Mixer. If not, you can meet her at the Midwest Rigging Intensive in Evanston this August. You can also read an interview with Xenia in the latest issue of Protocol . Laura Hoepker, former program manager for membership & events, retired in May. In Laura's all-too-brief time with the association, she made a huge impact, drawing an incredible number of new members into the fold and shaping new signature events like the Midwest Rigging Intensive and NATEAC. ESTA is grateful for the time Laura spent with us and wishes her the best as the newest Behind the Scenes board member. If you have any questions about ESTA membership or simply want to introduce yourself to our new program manager for membership & events, please email xenia.lappo@esta.org . July 3, 2025
Our luxury restroom trailers are fully operational at night, thanks to a dual solar system setup. Each trailer features two independent solar systems, both with their own battery storage, ensuring reliable performance even in the absence of sunlight. Providing functionality for lighting, ventilation, and water circulation throughout the night, both systems are designed to operate for up to 12 hours without solar input, making them highly reliable for overnight use. While the DC loads are supported by both systems, only the main system supplies power to AC components like the air conditioner and water heater. Main System The main solar system is powered by a 3,840Wh lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery bank operating at 51.2V and 75Ah. It is supported by three 545W JA Solar JA-JAM72-D30-545MB solar panels. This system handles the primary energy load, including air conditioning and water heating, which run on AC power. Back-Up System The backup solar system uses two LiFePO4 battery banks rated at 12V and 100Ah each (2,400 Wh in total). It is charged by a single dedicated 545W JA Solar panel. This backup system ensures continued operation of essential DC loads such as lights, fans, and pumps. July 2, 2025
ESTA's Midwest Rigging Intensive (MRI) returns August 14-16, offering an unmatched hands-on training experience for rigging professionals in the entertainment industry. Registration is now open for the event, which will take place at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, just outside Chicago, and will once again bring together some of the most respected rigging trainers in the field, this time with an emphasis on touring rigging. "The Midwest Rigging Intensive is a one-of-a-kind training event that exposes participants to real world challenges in an environment that allows them to workshop various solutions while not being under the pressure of an actual production schedule," said MRI instructor Tracy Nunnally of Vertigo. "Time is so often a critical resource when working through solutions on a show tour, and MRI 2025 will allow the time to work through a variety of solutions for complex problems encountered by many touring productions." "The importance of MRI is that it brings together an entire community of rigging trainers in a way that few other training opportunities can match," said Ed Leahy of Chicago Flyhouse, who is also an instructor for the event. "Attendees get the perspectives of many different experts in the field and then get to combine conceptual knowledge with practical application of those concepts in a single event." This year's MRI will focus on touring rigging, training content that has never been presented at a national level. "Touring is a huge part of our business, but few people have access to learn about the process unless they sign on to do it," Leahy explained. "This event will give folks a chance to see what good touring looks like and practice skills that are useful for touring technicians or those who host touring events." MRI continues to set the standard for rigging education by providing real-world scenarios, hands-on training, and direct access to industry leaders, and the event will carry ETCP education renewal credits. ETCP Program Manager Christina Smith encouraged ETCP technicians to attend: "To have so many ETCP Recognized Trainers work together to develop new curriculum each year, much of which is hands-on, creates a meaningful training experience. The attendees are often ETCP certified riggers or riggers pursuing certification, and their insightful questions and experience add to the value of the intensive. An ETCP certified rigger would be well-served to attend MRI." Special thanks to our Chain Level sponsor, DeLong Rigging Solutions, and Cable Level sponsor, ETC. Sponsorship opportunities are still available; contact mri@esta.org . To find out more and register for MRI, visit esta.org/mri .About Midwest Rigging Intensive
