IFFS 2013 Announces Opening Keynote Speaker John Sloss
By: International Film Festival Summit | July 22, 2013
Today, the 10th annual International Film Festival Summit (IFFS) - happening December 8-10, 2013 in Austin, Texas - announces its opening keynote, John Sloss, founder of Cinetic Media. To see more industry leaders confirmed to participate in the 2013 event as part of the summit's daily Agenda visit www.filmfestivalsummit.com.
John Sloss, recently named one of The 2013 Indiewire Influencers, is the founder of the entertainment and media advisory firm Cinetic Media and a co-founder of FilmBuff. He has been selling and financing some of the most prominent titles to play the festival circuit including Napoleon Dynamite, Super Size Me, Little Miss Sunshine and Oscar nominees Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' By Sapphire and The Kids are Alright and executive producing over 60 films including Academy Award®-winning The Fog of War and Boys Don't Cry.
"John Sloss is the top deal maker in the industry. He has orchestrated deals of some of the biggest independent film successes and sells as many as 20 films at Sundance each year," said Laurie Kirby, executive director of IFFS. "He understands where the independent film industry is today and what it will become, making him an ideal keynote for IFFS."
Also the founder and a partner in the entertainment law firm Sloss Eckhouse Law Co LLP Sloss, Sloss' has worked with and continues to work with law clients including Killer Films, Richard Linklater, Kevin Smith, Bob Dylan, John Hamburg, Justin Lin, Jake Kasdan, the Isle of Man's CinemaNX and Big Beach Films.
Sloss' ability negotiate deals and manage films throughout the entire festival process has earned him the title of "The (Arguably) Most Powerful Man at Sundance Film Festival". In 2006 he brokered a deal with Fox Searchlight Pictures that at the time was the largest distribution deal for a Sundance film. However Sloss states, "I am by no means 'the most powerful person at Sundance.' The most powerful person at Sundance is the one who picks the films or has the most money." Whether the film community agrees to disagree, it's apparent that Sloss comprises a wealth of experience and continues to make a significant impact on the indie film industry.
Alongside keynote addresses, IFFS' agenda provides a forum where industry leaders can discuss a broad range of topics - from programming, distribution, sponsorship, marketing and
filmmaking while providing attendees the opportunity to network, learn from one another and share knowledge; creating partnerships that can only happen at IFFS.
Registration for IFFS 2013 is going on now. Visit www.filmfestivalsummit.com for more information.
