Proof Inc. Founder Ron Frankel to Speak During FMX Event in Germany
By: Dan Harary | April 8, 2013

Ron Frankel, the Founder and Creative Director of Proof Inc., one of the film industry's leading pre-visualization houses, will participate in three high profile industry events in the coming weeks. Mr. Frankel is participating in these events to promote the critically important role of Previs within the filmmaking industry.
He says, "In today's world of feature film production, the stakes are higher, the margin for error is thinner, the budgets are tighter, and the schedules are shorter. In this environment, we're forced to devise smarter, faster and more versatile ways of working. At the center of these changes is Previs - a discipline that started in the modest roots of shot design and technical planning, but has evolved and thrived. Today, Previs encompasses almost every aspect of film-making."
Mr. Frankel will speak on a panel entitled "Pre and Post Visualization - Today's Storyboarding," as part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Craft Series. The panel will take place on Monday, April 15, at the AMPAS offices in Beverly Hills, and will focus on the development of pre-visualization on the computer through animation. The session will also explore how Previs has helped to further communication between members of production, and to improve both the understanding of the story and processes taken in developing the director's vision.
Panelists in addition to Mr. Frankel for the April 15 event include:
Sheena Duggal (The Hunger Games, Spider Man 3)
Chris Edwards (Thor, Iron Man 2)
Dan Gregoire (Prometheus, Snow White and the Huntsman)
Joe Kosinski (Oblivio, TRON: Legacy)
Boyd Shermis (Journey2: The Mysterious Island, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra)
Moderator: Michael Tronick (Governor, Film Editing Branch)
Please see: http://www.oscars.org/events-exhibitions/events/2013/04/vfx-convergence.html
For more info, please contact: Bettina Fisher - Director of Educational Initiatives, AMPAS, bfisher@oscars.org
On April 25th, Mr. Frankel will present a discussion on Previs during the "Virtual Production" Track, at the FMX 2013 Event in Stuttgart, Germany. FMX is an annual, international conference on Animation, Visual Effects, Games and Transmedia. FMX is an event by Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, organized by the Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction, hosting the Animation Production Day (APD), a joint venture with the Festival of Animated Film Stuttgart (ITFS). FMX is held in cooperation with the VES Visual Effects Society, ACM SIGGRAPH, 5D Institute, and Eurographics. For more info: http://www.fmx.de/
And on Friday, May 3rd at 11 AM, Mr. Frankel will present a discussion on Previs during the inaugural Production Pipeline Expo 2013 in Santa Monica. This event is the new home to the solutions that will inspire today's artist, discover tomorrow's new leaders, and spark the ideas that will drive "the next big thing" in the collective creative industries of VFX, Animation and Game Development. What began as the Career Fair & Technology Expos of 2011 and 2012 has evolved into this new visual effects and animation expo complete with expert panels. Production Pipeline Expo 2013 will address the creation, development, management, and delivery of content across film, television, and games along all the disciplines of an actual production pipeline with special attention paid to all major portions of the creation process. ABOUT RON FRANKEL:
Ron Frankel, President and Founder of Proof, Inc. is a pioneer in the field of feature film pre-visualization. He was the first to introduce directors such as Steven Spielberg, David Fincher and Darren Aronofsky to the use of Previs and has been a driving force behind the integration of Previs throughout the entire film production process. Recent collaborators include those with Marc Webb, Justin Lin, Zack Snyder, Francis Lawrence, Gary Ross and Michel Gondry.
Ron continues to push pre-visualization into new areas of film production and into worlds beyond Hollywood. His most recent work involves using augmented reality technologies to create live, in-camera visualizations. In addition to his work on feature films, he has used Previs to problem solve large-scale architectural installations, to create an immersive environment for the Museum of Modern Art, New York (in collaboration with Imaginary Forces, Greg Lynn and Alex McDowell) and to provide motion capture planning for video games such as Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and Blitz (in collaboration with Midway Games).
Ron has a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and a Masters of Architecture from MIT. He is a founding member of the Previsualization Society, the Virtual Production Committee and 5D: The Future of Immersive Design. His work has been published in Cinefex, VFX World, American Cinematographer and the New York Times. In addition to his work at Proof, Ron also teaches a course on visualization at the UCLA School of Architecture and Urban Design.
ABOUT PROOF INC.:

Upcoming projects include Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Fast and Furious 6 and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
From the start of development through to delivery, the talented digital artists of Proof help filmmakers tell their stories and realize their visions. Proof specializes in four areas of creative services:

Virtual Production: Proof provides on-set visualization, the synchronization and compositing of live photography with 2D or 3D virtual elements, for immediate visual feedback;
Post-vis: This is a creative process whereby filmmakers can direct the parts of their film that weren't captured during photography because they were either impractical or impossible to get in camera;
Event Visualization: Proof's artists have the ability to create accurate virtual design spaces for any event, ranging from a fashion show to a concert to a real-estate development to a multi-media projection against a tall building.
