ABELCINE TRAINING PRESENTS "BRITISH INVASION" WORKSHOP SERIES
By: AbelCine | October 26, 2012

Geoff Boyle, Alister Chapman and Den Lennie to Teach Camera Technology
and Production Techniques. AbelCine Training has partnered with three prominent British industry professionals to offer a series of workshops covering RAW formats, gamma, large format cameras, and cinematic production. Cinematographers Geoff Boyle, Alister Chapman and Den Lennie will bring their expertise to the US, teaching workshops in New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta in November and December.
The British Invasion workshops include: Raw Formats, Shooting, Workflow and Post with Geoff Boyle, Know Your Gamma with Alister Chapman, and Working with Large Format Cameras in the Real World with Alister Chapman & Den Lennie. Den Lennie will also teach three classes: Two-Day Cinematic Production Workshop, Advanced Cinematic Documentary Shooting, and a Blackmagic Cinema Camera Workshop.
Geoff Boyle is an accomplished cinematographer, instructor, and the founder of CML. He also works closely with camera manufacturers in the development of new equipment. Boyle has shot feature films, TV series and commercials using both Log and RAW, pushing the technology as far as he can, often using prototype cameras.
Alister Chapman started working for the BBC in 1989, fitting early video cameras into racecars and filming motor races on 16mm film. Since then he has travelled around the world shooting stock footage and working for clients like the BBC, Sky, NBC and Discovery. He also teaches numerous workshops, sharing the knowledge he has gathered over his career.
Den Lennie began his career in 1994 working for Reuters in TV news. He spent seven years working in news and current affairs before going freelance as a Director of Photography. He runs the F-Stop Academy, which offers online learning, as well as in-person instruction.
All of AbelCine's British Invasion workshops are designed to be very hands-on and class sizes are limited to ensure attendees can benefit from the instructors' personal attention. Registration is now open, and anyone interested in attending the workshops should visit www.abelcine.com/r/british-invasion for more information.
Geoff Boyle, who taught a pilot workshop at AbelCine earlier this year, says "I'm really looking forward to my workshops with AbelCine in LA and Atlanta; the New York workshop was one of the most enjoyable I've done. The attendees were incredibly well informed and interested, and I'm sure I'll meet some great folks in the next ones."
Alister Chapman says of his upcoming workshop, "I've worked with some amazing people during my career, and Den Lennie is one of the best. When Den and I worked together on the Duran Duran film, there was a chemistry and magic that helped create an incredible film that the entire crew is immensely proud of. The opportunity to get together again with Den at AbelCine in New York, to share our combined 40 years of experience and expertise is very exciting indeed! Den is not only a great cinematographer, he is also a great educator, and I think this event will educate, inspire and motivate."
Den Lennie comments, "I'm passionate about training, and so I'm thrilled to be partnering with AbelCine for these upcoming workshops. AbelCine has a solid commitment to filmmaker and broadcast education, and this is shared by F-Stop Academy. These diverse workshops are guaranteed to transform the skills and confidence of the filmmakers who attend. It is one thing to study filmmaking online, but quite another to get into a room with like-minded peers and apply it hands-on. I can't wait to work with the attendees."
"We are very excited to bring these three British pros to the US for this workshop series," says Andy Shipsides, AbelCine's Training Department Manager and Camera Technology Specialist. "The classes fit perfectly with our philosophy of hands-on training for the real world."
