The Three Musketeers - Bavarian scenery as a movie star!

By: Julia Wülker | October 21, 2011

On October 21 the international coproduction The Three Musketeers directed by Paul W.S. Anderson starts in US theaters. Two-thirds of the 3D remake based on Alexandre Dumas' novel were shot on original locations in Bavaria: Bamberg, Würzburg, Pommersfelden, Burghausen, Herrenchiemsee, Schleißheim and Munich. It is the most complex on-location-production which has taken place in Bavaria so far. Historical sceneries, which are usually shut for movie shots, were now available for the film production due to exemplary teamwork of the Film Commission Bavaria, the Location Network Bavaria and the Bavarian Administration of State-Owned Palaces, Gardens and Lakes.

FFF Film Commissioner Anja Metzger: "The organization of the film locations was one of the biggest challenges for the Bavarian Film Commission. Because of the excellent cooperation with our partners of the Location Network Bavaria, necessary bridges could have been built with municipalities and cities and a smooth production flow of the movie shots was possible for the international crew. Special thanks go to Constantin film production for their sensitive and excellent handling with the film locations."

"The Three Musketeers" is a production of Constantin film and Impact Pictures in coproduction with NEF Productions and New Legacy Film in cooperation with Studio Babelsberg, film distribution by Constantin Film. Matthew Macfadyen (Athos), Ray Stevenson (Porthos), Luke Evans (Aramis), Logan Lerman (D'Artagnan), Christoph Waltz (cardinal Richelieu), Orlando Bloom (duke of Buckingham), Milla Jovovich (M'lady de Winter) and Mads Mikkelsen as Rochefort play leading roles.
