West LA 3D Printing recently completed one of the most detailed models we've ever created: a 1/12 scale model of the Chug Chug machine from the original Knott's Bear-y Tales ride. Patterned after the Chug Chug machine designed in 1976 by Disney Legend Rolly Crump and built by his son Chris Crump, this model was made to celebrate the release of Christopher Merritt's book Knott's Bear-y Tales, which explores the history of what is often referred to as the best dark ride outside of Disneyland.

Chris came to us in early October with an advance copy of the book, some additional photos, and the idea of making a scale model he could take around to book signings. With a tight deadline of a little over 2 months, we managed to create all the CAD plans, test prints, and final prints. Then we sent it all over to Chris for final painting and assembly. This piece is now going to the book signings and is wowing crowds with its detail and sense of nostalgia.
