Los Angeles is getting more production infrastructure.
Sylmar Studios, a new 300,000 sq. ft. production facility, is set to open next month in Sylmar, Calif.
The complex will include six 16,000 sq. ft. soundstages, a lighting and grip department, make-up / hair space, dressing rooms, wardrobe, green rooms and production offices. A 600-space parking structure is on the premises.
The studio, which is led by president and general manager Patrick Dempsey, has partnered with Spectrum Entertainment Enterprise division to provide IDF (individual distribution frame) rooms, a high-speed network, and a central plant/chiller system. The building is owned by Bledsoe XC and developed by Xebec Realty Partners. The value of the investment wasn't disclosed.
It is understood that at opening, Sylmar Studios will have MPA's Trusted Partner Network certification and operate as a "green studio" with a "zero waste initiative." The facility is also built in an Opportunity Zone, a geographic area designated to encourage economic growth and job creation in low-income communities.
Sylmar Studios was designed by Ware Malcomb with XBC Building Company and Bomel Construction as principal contractors. In October, it was selected as a recipient of a Community Impact Award at the Los Angeles Business Council's Los Angeles Architectural Awards.
Additional details including the names of any productions that it might have committed to use this space when it opens, were not shared.
Tony Guanci, CEO of Sylmar Studios, said in a released statement: "From the thoughtfulness behind the physical location of the space to the dedication to cutting-edge technology, inclusion of best-in-class production studios, and know-how of our seasoned team, every aspect of Sylmar Studios is tailored to redefine the standard of production facilities, setting the stage for an unparalleled filmmaking experience."
