Department for Culture & Creative Development welcomes Galia Farber as new San Antonio Film Commissioner
By: San Antonio Film Commission | December 2, 2015
The City of San Antonio Department for Culture & Creative Development announces Galia Farber as the new San Antonio Film Commissioner. In her role as Film Commissioner, Farber will work to cultivate relations with the location film and production community, as well as market San Antonio as a film-friendly destination.
"San Antonio is emerging as a standout choice for national and international television and film production opportunities," said Felix N. Padrón, Director for the Department for Culture & Creative Development. "Galia brings a strong and dynamic expertise that will help elevate the San Antonio Film Commission to a new level and, more importantly, help provide more resources to local and regional filmmakers."
Farber is a seasoned media and entertainment professional with more than 15 years of experience ranging from independent film to public television. Most recently, she served as Production Manager for KLRU-TV, the Austin PBS affiliate, where she worked on productions including "Austin City Limits" and co-produced the two-time Lone Star Emmy Award-winning show, "SXSW Flashback."
Her diverse experience includes working for ITVS, an independent arm of PBS that funds, presents, and promotes award-winning documentaries and dramas on public television and cable, including the Emmy Award-winning weekly series, "Independent Lens." She also served as head of production for an independent record label that specializes in film/television soundtracks and worked for an independent film sales distribution agent.
"I'm excited to join the San Antonio Film Commission and help the City of San Antonio continue to foster filmmaking in this city," said Farber. "I look forward to working with our local filmmakers to showcase the incredible talent in San Antonio."
A native of St. Louis, MO, Farber earned a master's degree in Arts Management from City University in London and a bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri.
