Eclectic/Encore contains more than 1 million props in a discreet Long Island City warehouse. In the basement of a three-story warehouse in Long Island City, among an array of life-sized, open-mouthed plastic shark heads, Suri Bieler notices that something is missing.
A small rubber shark she had rented to the film "Sharknado 2" was gone, never returned with the rest of the fake fishes she had lent to the science-fiction disaster flick. "Maybe it's in 'Sharknado 3,'" she said, smiling. A slightly chipped Egyptian Phoenix sculpture crouches nearby, not far from a set of larger-than-life Russian nesting dolls and a mechanical Zoltan fortune-teller. Venetian furniture, Versailles-style chaise lounges, and 1950s-era desks fight for space on the floors above while Moroccan-style cushions and Chinese wall hangings are barely contained in in their designated areas.

The film industry has undergone major paradigm shifts in 2016. Before we explore this analysis, let's review the status quo. According to the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. (MPAA), the film industry has continued to generate a positive balance of trade, year over year, in every country where it does business (MPAA). The film industry not only increasingly promotes economic activities, but is also a major employer that supports millions of jobs and billions in wages. According to Statista, the U.S. filmed entertainment revenue in 2016 was at the highest it has ever been since 2012, reaching 29.93 billion U.S. dollars. PwC expects this figure to grow to 35.33 billion in 2019 (Statista). The direct-to-consumer "videoquake" is driving content distributors to create more segmented and affordable subscription rates, while apps are influencing how users experience media and entertainment as they become the primary content delivery platform (PwC). Without owning, you won't have to stick to any particular production equipment over long periods of time. You have the flexibility and freedom to employ the newest lenses, grips, lighting and sound gear on the block, month to month. Renting does not necessarily mean you will instantly save money compared to owning your own equipment. The most challenging renting question is - "what do you want versus what do you need?" The reason behind this perspective is to be mindful of whether or not the more expensive equipment will truly make a difference in what you are shooting. In business terms, return on investment (ROI) can be your renting compass when it comes to those tough decisions. Don't forget to get insurance on just about everything. The worst setback during the production process is suffering an expensive mistake that could have been prevented with simply buying insurance.

HERE'S WHAT THE FAMOUS ALBINO BURMESE PYTHON IS UP TO NOW
It's been nearly 15 years since Britney Spears sashayed across the VMAs stage with an albino Burmese python casually draped around her shoulders. The moment - forever burned in my memory as the singular most important event to ever happen [to adolescent me] - became iconic, and in many ways, synonymous with the MTV Video Music Awards.
Ask any Millennial to name a favorite VMAs performance and chances are Spears's snake dance tops the list. It was also a Big Fucking Deal™ for Banana, the seven-foot albino Burmese python who graced the shoulders of greatness that September night at New York City's Metropolitan Opera House.
Since making its debut at the 2001 VMAs, Banana the snake has become a mythical figure in Spears's legacy. It represents the pinnacle of Spears's success. The snake even has its own Tumblr account. There's a reason MTV recruited another albino Burmese python to announce the pop star's performance at the upcoming 2016 VMAs. But what do we really know about this so-called Banana?
Back in 2012, Spears reassured the internet that her famous VMAs partner was still alive and that "her" name was Banana. That was all we really knew about this legendary reptile - until now. In honor of the 15th anniversary of the pop star's "I'm a Slave 4 U" VMAs performance, I decided to put my NYU Journalism degree to the test and find Banana. What I thought was going to be an easy Google search, however, took an unexpected turn, and I ended up learning more than I ever expected to know about albino Burmese pythons - and, surprisingly, Britney's impact on their popularity.
Britney Spears and Other's Snake Encounters
My quest began with a simple search: "Albino Burmese Python Banana Britney Spears." I immediately clicked on the seemingly helpful link, "Britney Spears's Scandalous VMAs Snake: Where Is It Now?" But that article did not tell me where Banana was now; that article lied to me. However, it

Hollywood, CA -- Looking back at a career that's lived-through 30 years of industry change - from globalization and digitization of staid production efficiencies, to computer graphic visual effects, to 'there's an APP for that' - award winning Todd Masters, Founder and President of acclaimed creature FX studio MASTERSFX, says he is amazed at how his practical FX continue to STILL be in demand - even more prevalent - in today's crowded field of digital visual effects.
"The hand-crafted art of make-up effects, prosthetics and highly realistic artificial bodies, remains at the core of our business for 30 years now!" Masters said excitedly, celebrating his milestone. "Our physical, on-set practical FX work is very-much in demand these days. I'd even say, we've been busier these last couple of years, more than I can ever recall. That surprises even me."
He states that a current crop of in-the-know filmmakers has helped the resurgence - demanding a more believable and organic look for their film's FX. "Many of today's renowned directors were kids when I started this business. And like me, they grew up watching monster movies and dreaming of creation. Because of this childhood wonder, and their passion for realizing these creations - we find that many are prefer having these things show up on set - integrating the onset practical FX, with digital work. Directors like Adam Wingard, Christopher Nolan, Guillermo del Toro, JJ Abrams, James Gunn are poster boys for the love of practical FX."

Masters' company's experience mixing practical work into modern visual effects -- along with many other methodological changes in his company, seems to be the key to their vibrancy. "Practical FX work onset not only can help with budgets, but it often grounds the film into some reality. If everything has a magical appearance to it, it's difficult for audiences to grasp story and parse objectively."
Masters points to the recent "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" films and how

It is rare these days, for a film studio to develop a project that showcases make-up prosthetics to the level of quality and quantity that is seen in Paramount's new film, Star Trek Beyond. Of course, there are film and television shows that feature numerous make-ups but typically, they are not as extensive as this. The make-up designs in Star Trek Beyond were developed into 56 different alien races with multiple make-ups within those races, almost all of which were full head coverage involving intricate painting and detail. The challenge on this film would be to keep the complexity and quantities of the make-ups under control and get everything built in a short time frame while still pushing the aesthetic of the alien characters.
