Founded in 1980 by digital imaging pioneer, Dr. Savvas Chamberlain, DALSA has led the transition from \“film-based\” capture to digital capture in demanding applications such as high end professional photography, machine vision and medical imaging. Over that period, we’ve built an international reputation for designing and manufacturing the highest performance imaging solutions available. Recent technical achievements. In 2006, we successfully delivered the world’s first 100+ million pixel image sensor chip to our customer, STA, for use by the US Naval Observatory. At over 111 million pixels, it’s the world’s highest resolution monolithic image sensor. Also in 2006, we delivered a unique line scan image to Seitz, a panoramic camera manufacturer. The DALSA-designed chip allows the camera to capture an amazing 160 mega pixel16 bit panoramic image in just one second, with an equivalent ISO rating of 500 to 10,000. Other recent performance benchmarks include cameras with frame rates up to 100,000,000 fps and total data rates up to 8 giga-pixels per second. We are committed to pushing the boundaries of performance every day. Perhaps our best known achievement is our work with NASA/JPL. The CCD image sensor chips aboard the \“Spirit\” and \“Opportunity\” Rovers were manufactured at DALSA’s semiconductor fab in Bromont, Quebec. More than three years later, these same chips continue to capture the most visually stunning images ever taken from the surface of another planet, proving that high performance can go hand in hand with robustness and reliability. The common thread in all of our ground-breaking achievements is the commitment to building more and ever better technology. We dedicate over 20% of our revenue to research and development, and, unlike most other camera makers, we have control on the complete technology chain, from silicon wafers to image sensors chips to electronic cameras to image processing software.
