Montana Film Office Names "Magpie" Winner of "Pitch the 406" Contest

Montana filmmakers receive $20,000 production package to tell a Montana story in the Big Sky state. There is more sky to shoot in eastern Montana than in any place in the world. And the horizon of a few Montana filmmakers to make an independent feature on the plains of eastern Montana just got a lot bigger. Filmmaker Matthew Smaglik and his team were named winners of the Montana Film Office's "Pitch the 406" contest on Sunday, January 22, at the Sundance Film Festival - winning a $20,000 production package to produce their project, called "Magpie."
"We're very grateful to the film office for the opportunity," said Matthew Smaglik. "The production package will help us achieve our full financing and enable us to produce a film that tells the story of real-life issues facing eastern Montanans."
"Magpie" explores the current Bakken oil boom in eastern Montana, telling the fictional story of a ranch family and how it adapts to the changing world. PRODUCERS SHOWCASE (PROSHOW) COMPETITION

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced today the launch of the third annual PGA Producers Showcase (ProShow) competition, taking place in conjunction with the 2012 Produced By Conference (PBC) to be held June 8-10, 2012. Ten finalists will receive free admission to this year's PBC where they will participate in one-onone meetings with top Hollywood financiers, studios and production companies. A grand-prize winning project will be awarded $20,000 in prizes, and the nine remaining finalists will each receive $500 cash prizes. The ProShow offers a unique opportunity for foreign and domestic independent producers to
realize their vision on the big screen. Developed by the PGA's International Committee and
initiated in 2010, the ProShow aims to help producers initiate business relationships, co-develop
compelling projects and spearhead investments. The ProShow accepts feature-length screenplay

Celebrating the Outdoors with Steve Martins Working Wildlife

Titan and Messiah will be the featured guests at this year's Northwest Community Credit Union's Sportsmen & Outdoor Recreation Show. These two live African lions will have plenty of company in the wildlife kingdom, with three life-sized mounted animals: a world record bison, a black bear and a mountain lion. Big Ike, a Sasquatch replica also will be present.
If you want to take a break from viewing the wildlife and checking out other outdoor recreational pursuits and products, do some taste testing at the wild game and wine pairing table, or say hello to members of the Boy Scouts of America at their "ideal campsite."
There will be a variety of sights, sounds, products and activities at the show scheduled for February 17-19 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Complex in Roseburg. Hours are noon to 9p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Spirit Awards, announced the selection of accomplished film producer Stephanie Allain as its new Los Angeles Film Festival Director, starting immediately. She succeeds Rebecca Yeldham, who recently elected to step down for personal reasons. Stephanie will be working closely with Festival Managing Director Gloria Campbell and Festival Artistic Director David Ansen, as well as Associate Director of Programming Doug Jones, Senior Programmer Maggie Mackay and Programming Coordinator Jenn Wilson. Opening Night of OSWALD Play Features Eastern Costume Wardrobe

Opening night of OSWALD, a play by Dennis Richard, at Write Act Repertory Theatre featured a police uniform from well-known costume house, Eastern Costume. The police officer uniform was worn by actor, A.J. Jones who plays Officer Sims in the play. OSWALD partnered with Eastern Costume to run a contest to give away two tickets to attend the sold-out premiere . The winner was announced Friday, Jan. 13th and was in attendance opening night alongside directors, critics, actors and many other entertainment professionals .
Eastern Costume has a mass selection of police and military uniforms as well as civilian wardrobe from the 1920's to present day which is easily accessible at their North Hollywood location.

FILM INDEPENDENT APPOINTS SEAN MC MANUS & JOSH WELSH AS CO-PRESIDENTS

LOS ANGELES (January 10, 2012) - Today, the Film Independent Board Chairman Bill Condon announced that Senior Director Sean Mc Manus and Director of Artist Development Josh Welsh have been appointed to newly created positions of Co-Presidents. They succeed Executive Director Dawn Hudson, who departed in June to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences as CEO. In their new positions, Mc Manus and Welsh will work together to lead the organization and run its year-round programs that nurture independent filmmakers and expand the audience in which their work can be appreciated. "The Board of Directors and staff are delighted to have Sean and Josh as Co-Presidents. They are a seasoned team whose skills and expertise complement one another beautifully. They collectively possess 25 years of experience, in every area of the organization, and it's clear they have a shared vision that will take Film Independent to its next level of growth. We're confident they will build upon the solid foundation Dawn established and will successfully usher Film Independent into the future," said Condon.
