Teleprompters are devices that prompt a speaker with an electronic visual text of a speech or script. This is similar to using cue cards, but less distracting, as the performer looks directly into the video monitor and does not have to look down & away from the camera lens. Historically, the first teleprompters were simply mechanical devices with a paper scroll that was advanced as the performer read.
