A technical advisor is an expert in a particular field of knowledge who's hired to provide detailed information to people working in that field or industry. Movie or TV directors will hire an expert to ensure that a complicated area is correctly portrayed in a production. Their expertise adds realism to both the acting and the set of a movie.
