Bleachers refer to raised, tiered rows of seats that usually have simple plank seating, while grandstands may have seats with backrests. Bleachers received their name from the wooden boards that looked like they were "bleached by the sun". This type of seating is used for spectator events, including location shooting of sports events, or indoor taping of shows requiring live audiences. Crews may be responsible for construction of these units on set, or they may be rented from specialty companies.
